Program areas at Goldsboro Family YMCA
Youth Development: Our Y is committed to nurturing the potential of every child, and we continue to support youth and families with childcare options for all ages all year long. Focusing on social and emotional health, values education, skill development, and relationship building leads to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement. Our YMCA programs, such as Youth Aquatics Initiatives, Youth Sports, Summer Day Camp, and Y Afterschool, Licensed Three Starr Preschool, offer a range of life skills that enrich cognitive, social, physical, and emotional growth. Our YMCA believes every family should have access to safe and affordable programs.
Aquatics Program. Our Aquatics Facility allows community members to benefit from Aquatic Programming for people of all ages. We do this through organized swim lessons, competitive swimming, high school swim competitions, certified lifeguard training, recreational swimming, water safety awareness classes, and water group exercise. The Aquatic Facility is available to the community through membership, program participation, daily guests, and facility rentals. The Y applies a policy that no one is turned away for an inability to pay through our financial assistance program. The Aquatic Facility is a centerpiece for local, state, and regional competitive swim meets with teams traveling throughout our region. As the largest aquatic center in the eastern part of our state, the center also serves as a local training facility for city and county water rescue personnel and the local Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
Healthy Living: The YMCA views health holistically: Health needs to include spirit, mind, and body. Our YMCA has identified the growing obesity and diabetes rates in our state as a critical social issue that must be addressed. Programs such as Enhanced Fitness and Diabetes Prevention are designed to help people develop new life skills and to promote overall health and well-being. This is accomplished by setting realistic goals for self-improvement, disease prevention through an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, stress management, and health education. At the YMCA we promote interaction, teamwork, development of moral and ethical behavior, social skills, and self-esteem. We serve all ages, abilities, races, nationalities, and religions. In 2022 we provided financial assistance in excess of $175,000 in membership and program opportunities.
