Program areas at PHS
The philadelphia flower show is a nine-day event featuring Horticultural exhibits and educational programs. It is The oldest and largest annual indoor flower show in The world attracting over 125,000 people, in The current fiscal year. Proceeds from The show help support The Society's greening programs.
Phs's educational programs provide Horticultural information and training to members, volunteers and other constituents in The phildelphia region through workshops, lectures, tours, events and publications. It includes one of The largest Horticultural libraries in The country with nearly 15,000 volumes.
See schedule ophs's greening program has been a noted force in urban revitalization since 1974 and serves as a national model for transforming communities through horticulture. Together we create beautiful, healthy and sustainable communities. We work to increase access to fresh food by supporting 171 community gardens and urban farms to grow and share produce in their neighborhoods. We support 104 healthy food distribution sites with 10,471 gardeners growing or sharing food in their communities. Partinering with The city of philadelphia, we clean, green and maintain over 13,116 lots across The city, turning blighted lots into neighborhood assets. Through training and networking, we've helped over 250 people find meaningful employment when returning to The community after incarceration. We've trained over 6,000 tree tenders to plant and take care of trees. Together with our partners, we've planted over 554,000 trees in The region since 2011. Under contract with The philadelphia water department, we have installed 4,186 rain barrels and provided stormwater management education to 9,995 residents. We maintain 18 public green spaces across philadelphia utilzing organic land care practices.
