Program areas at The Mustard Seed Thrift on Mission
Brick & mortar store front - The Mustard Seed store front had 63,928 customers and 30,524 donors serviced in 2022. Each one of those customers and donors were opportunities to educate and talk about The Mission which is to support christian organizations that assist with healing and/or prevention of childhood sexual abuse, and to be a gateway for survivors to access resources to facilitate healing. The educational component of our Mission is extremely important, and it sets The stage for a safe and acceptable place for our community to reach out for The help that they did not know was available to them. Because The topic of abuse is talked about regularly in The store, we are chipping away at The stigma of silence that often follows a survivor of abuse and prevents them from receiving healing.
Education - The Mustard Seed partnered with new albany floyd county school system, silver creek high school, christian academy of Indiana, and numerous churches to provide volunteer opportunities for our community. Educational opportunities for The Mustard Seed to teach each volunteer about our Mission and how to direct people who have suffered through abuse to needed resources were also provided. We completed 5 speaking engagements at local events about our Mission, abuse, and available resources.
Benevolence - The Mustard Seed was The point of contact for 77 referrals to agencies that delivered direct services. A total of $60,968 was contributed to soar ministrities, of which $10,968 was contributed for 250 professional conuseling sessions; $50,000 was contributed ro refuge for women; and $43,214 was contributed to chilplace family services. Direct services were provided by Mustard Seed staff in The form of a media campaign, website, brochures, and public speaking engagements. Significant attention is directed to The store environment and hospitality where survivors come and share their stories.
